Meeting the prescription needs of our “furry” family members is the 1-800-PetMeds pharmacy team. Our specially trained pharmacists are informed, accessible, and ready to serve the prescription needs of our millions of customers. Our pharmacists take the same special care with pet prescriptions as a neighborhood pharmacist takes with “human prescriptions”. Assisted by the other team members, our pharmacy technicians, the pharmacy staff utilizes state of the art quality control processes to ensure the prompt, accurate processing of prescription orders.

Careers within our Pharmacy Department include Pharmacist, Certified or Registered Pharmacy Technician, and some administrative support. Our Pharmacy is open six days/week as follows: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. As with any successful business, our hours of operation are based on the needs of our customers and may change periodically since we continually review the volume of our prescription orders, and then hire and schedule appropriate personnel based on anticipated staffing needs.

All Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians undergo an extensive training program to ensure accuracy and quality are utmost in the service and products provided to our customers. In addition to initial training, we continue to coach and provide guidance and feedback as needed.

When recruiting for Pharmacy individuals at any level, we look for highly motivated and energetic individuals, with strong written and verbal communication and computer skills, who have a passion for and commitment to providing exceptional customer service. In addition, due to the requirement for accuracy and quality, we need individuals who are able to focus on detail. While certainly not a requirement, we find that many of our best employees are pet owners too, so are able to better communicate with our customers and their veterinarians simply due to their common love of pets. We also look for individuals who are available to work during the schedules for which we are recruiting, and added flexibility is a plus!

If this career sounds like a match with your background, experience, and career goals, we would love to hear from you!

Pharmacy FAQs

Is the role of a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician any different at 1-800-PetMeds than at my own neighborhood pharmacy?
No – the roles, rules and regulations are identical to those at any pharmacy. The only difference is that we deal with a more limited variety of prescription medications since they are for pets, not humans.
How does the Pharmacy handle requests for prescription medications?
Once an order is received for a prescription medication, that is where our Pharmacy Department takes over to ensure accurate and timely service for and to our customers. Our team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians contact the veterinarian offices and clinics (through phone or by FAX) to secure the authorization necessary to ship the prescription product to our customers.
